Howdy folks, I decided to do a bunch of turritella shells and chiastolite in my UV-10. The kiddies really like the "cross rocks" and shells. Something was lingering in the back of my mind about this but I couldn't remember what. Started them out in fine grind and a few hours later, cement *L*. Now I remember, chiastolite crystals, being angular, will not rotate properly in a vibe, if wet, and they immediately create a gooey mess when mixed with water and a little grit. Remembered too late that the last time I did this it was in my little mini-sonic, dry, with corn cob as a carrier for the grit. Anyway, had to scoop out the entire mess one spoonfull at a time and transfer it into my rotary rig where five days should do it up pretty well. Then, I'll finish the load in the vibe with tripoli and tin oxide. I'd have done it dry but I couldn't find any corn cob in the shop. Anyway, here's a pic of the gooey mess I found when I opened 'er up. I'll post more pics when the batch is finally done.....Mel
