Can anyone point me in the right direction of some examples of rocks that can move on to the next stage? I am always second guessing myself on whether I can move a rock up in the tumbling cycle and I think I may be moving some of them too soon...

The only time I really look at my batches to see what can go to the next stage is during stage one. I have never done any sorting after that. After I move to 120/220 the batch stays the same through polish. The only rocks that get removed after 60/90 are ones that break. As far as when to move from stage one to stage two well even that's a personal choice. I always try not to move any rocks out of 60/90 till there are no pits or cracks but sometimes if I am going to loose a great banding pattern or cool feature by continuing in 60/90 I will allow some to move along with pits.

I just remembered back to when we started tumbling. On our second batch we ever did I took pictures as the rocks progressed. I checked the dates on the photos and the 60/90 stage was 6 weeks long in a rotary and the total time from breaking the rough up to finished was 10 weeks. Yellowstone ashflow jasper here's the rough And here is where we stoped 60/90 so after this they went in 120 And after 10 weeks you get something like this (keep in mind this was only the second batch we did and it was all rotary) Hope this helps a little Chuck
