aint nothing better than some good ol tomaters. In the summer time I live off of bologne and tomato sandwiches. Funny because I never get sick of them either. Tomatos around here go for close to 1.50lb now. I usually get them from other members of my local.

My neighbor is a die hard 4th generation Georgia farmer. He covets his tomatoes too.Babies them to the point the neighborhood gets jealous cause is so devoted to them.Keeps em in the basement real neat in nice little pots.Tomatoe people must all go to the same school.

I can't say I have done celebrity, I like porters too, always like how they have a distinct leaf shape from all others. Nice taste also. My new favorite is called peace vine, very small, biggest are size of a nickle. But the flavor is tangy and strong. Mouth watering ,making me hungry just thinking of them. Happy gardening hope it's a good year for ya!

Lookin' good Snuff! I let the nusery do the babying and get mine right before I plant them. I always plant Rutgers, an old Heritage variety that has lots of acid.

Aw man, all I got was more snow and counting. I can not think of anything better than standing in the garden with a salt shaker and eating tomatoes. Jim

Got a couple more months of winter here. I'll start my Brandywines from seed in a week or so. Got the pots all sterilized and ready to go. Grow lights are checked for dead bulbs. Heat mats are working. Fresh bags of starter mix. Gonna start Jalapenos and Cilantro too, so I can get my home made salsa fix. Onions and garlic don't do good here, so I'll buy those at the farmers market.

Good for you Snuffy. The heat gets us in Atlanta. We do Better and Bigger Boy here.I hung five 5 gallon buckets last year and put drip irrigation to them. They were 7 feet high and grew to the ground.BUT,you had to water them every single day.Planted in top,not side...

same here with the heat. Gotta water nearly everyday in the summer. Ive got a buddy that has some of those cherry sized tomatoes. He dont even eat them and I go over there in the summertime and pick them. The same plants grow tomatoes every year. Hes has them in a raised bed. I bet I picked at least 1,000 of them last year. The plants spread from the raised bed over to his dogs kennel fence and grew up it. 8-10 ft away or so. They actually made a nice sunscreen for the dog when hes in there.

To cool , I like that so many here dig the gardening action. Maybe they should start a gardening spot on the site. I was thinking of checking out a garden forum but I have plenty to check out here. On the tomatoes, I've noticed that smaller types have much less splitting if any. Also better flavor's , anyone like the peach tomatoes? I love those ,I have to plant some every year. They are so unique, I wonder how long it took to breed those and who started them going..

That's a lot of tomato plants. Do I see home made salsa in your future?
