Well after 16 months of running nonstop we have actually turned off six of our roughing barrels. I still have a couple loads ready for the lot-o but not much rough to work on. The one thing that was cool about this batch is that I had a fairly large (2" long) chuck of obsidian that ran in every stage with all these agates and jaspers and it came out pretty darn nice without even a hint of frosting. whole batch (small batch since I was using 2 pounds of ceramic to cushion that obsidian) ![](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/drummondislandrocks/2-17-13%20tumble/DSC05610_resize_zps2c1fff8a.jpg) obsidian ![](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/drummondislandrocks/2-17-13%20tumble/DSC05602_resize_zps12a87dc4.jpg) ![](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/drummondislandrocks/2-17-13%20tumble/DSC05608_resize_zpsb177a0fe.jpg) ![](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/drummondislandrocks/2-17-13%20tumble/DSC05601_resize_zpsff77131e.jpg) ![](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/drummondislandrocks/2-17-13%20tumble/DSC05599_resize_zpse9b8cedd.jpg) ![](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/drummondislandrocks/2-17-13%20tumble/DSC05597_resize_zpse458ebf3.jpg) ![](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/drummondislandrocks/2-17-13%20tumble/DSC05590_resize_zpsb66e1561.jpg) of course there were a few puddingstones .... ![](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/drummondislandrocks/2-17-13%20tumble/DSC05586_resize_zpse4d0b2b8.jpg) thanks for looking Chuck

Rob, we only had enough lakers for (2) 3 pound barrels and I hate to run the beast with just 2 barrels on it so they are stopped for the moment. I have been spending too much getting ready for a show/sale next month so hopefully after that we can get back on track. I do still have the 12 pounder going so hopefully we can keep the lot-o fed.

Stonewizard - Its funny that you mention that because my daughter hates our whole rock mess and noise down there but when they were turned off she actually commented and said it was kinda creepy in the basement when its silent .... LOL

You have a daughter? I thought you just had the two boys. Doesn't she have any interest in rocks? My daughter has done well in the rocks and minerals event in Science Olympiad competitions that last few weeks, but doesn't care about our rock hobby. Weird girls.

Rob - my daughter has no interest and don't even wear any of our stuff. I didn't realize you guys had science Olympiad. That was kinda of our start in this whole thing. Our rock club gave classes as prep for the rock hound portion so that was how we got hooked up with the club. My son did the rock hound event three years straight and finished second out of 80 schools his last year.

He's in eighth grade, right? My daughter is a junior, so they probably won't be competing against each other. Allison took first place in the Clio invitational (about 20 schools) and third place at the Frankenmouth invitational (about 40 schools). Alpena high school has gone to the state tournament every year for quite a few years.

My son did it in 4th, 5th, and 6th grade. When he got to middle school it switched from rocks and minerals to fossils and other stuff so he didn't do it. My youngest will be in 4th grade next year so hopefully he will get into it.
