Here's a few cabs I did from some small pieces from the Brenda field trip in January. These are all less than an inch long. On a couple of them, some small pits appeared as I ground them down, but I think they all have nice color. I especially love the reds and greens. Now that I've cut some slabs (have more material to select from), I should be able to come up with some non-pitted material. This little chip had some interesting features... Because of its odd shape, I did not make it into a standard cab. I would have had to grind too much of the stone away. It's more of a double-sided cab, with a twist to it. Will make a nice wire wrap pendant. A close up Thanks for looking. Jean

Thank you all for your comments. I've got a couple of larger red chunks that have some of the fortifications and weird things going on on the outside edge, will have to take a peek inside. Jean

Jean,
If you slab any of the rocks from Brenda let me know what you think of it. I wasn't overly impressed with mine but I've only done a couple of slabs. The smaller tumbler pieces are waiting their turn for the tumbler.

Hey, Denny, so far I've not been real impressed. I've cut maybe six or so of them, and while some of it has good color, a lot of it is either fractured or has pits. Some of them I may be able to get a smaller cab or two out of, working around the problem areas. A couple of them were a nice rich green on the outside, but inside - blah. There was one I cut that hinted at bring purple inside, but I have to say, the color inside more reminds me of a bruise! If it doesn't rain tomorrow, I'll try to get some pics of the ones I've cut so far, and get them posted
Most of the pieces I brought home are fist-sized or smaller. Since I only have a 10" saw, I wasn't going for any bombers. Next time, however, I need to pick up a "bigger blocky piece of the red green white stuff" for Shotgunner to make a "Christmas stone sphere!"
Just wait until next year... I'll have a better eye towards what I will be looking for, and probably visit the area more than once while in Quartzsite. I think there's a lot of potential for some killer rocks in the area! Jean
