If you are having trouble getting the nut off I recommend taking the thing down to your local autoshop and offering them $5.00 to hit the nut with an impact wrench.
Odds are it will pop off pretty easy with the impact wrench. Those things tend to break the rust up in no time.
Just remembrer to let them know which direction to go to remove the nut.
