I can't stand 'reality' shows. At least the few I've bothered to watch always overdramatize, make up ridiculous conflicts, and have unsatisfying resolutions. Then again, it is about rocks...

Not positive without going back and reviewing pm's but isn't this the show that our friend and fellow RTH member Dicky the rock hunter is in?

"The prospectors use picks, sledgehammers and dynamite to send Volkswagen-sized boulders spinning out of control down the 60 percent grade mountainside."
That will certainly go a long way towards advancing the cause of keeping public lands open for hounding, not to mention encouraging private landowners to let pickers like us on their property.

I would like to see a show that follows average hounders like us on our collecting trips around the country looking for something other than high value minerals. None of this conflict and fighting trash. Just hounders doing their thing in interesting places. I did see a short piece on digging geodes in Iowa. That was educating for me. My daughter and I took a trip to the north shore looking for agates. We then traveled up to Thunder Bay for amythist and Thunder Bay agate. I think that would have made a great show with all the things we did and saw along the way. I know many here take fantastic trips across the yard or across the country that the rest of us would like to see on profesional film.

Anyone here want to vid document their trips, or a group trip? I'd do my best to come up with the money to buy that! Granted, you might want to edit out some stuff if you want to keep people out of your special sites or anything, but I'm sure the views, hikes, and even a lot of the learning I could do from watching digging and hounding techniques would be well worth it! I'd offer to tape my own, but I'm afraid my purely amateur outings wouldn't rate much, heh. Anyway, I fully support someone (or even the forum) putting together a film or two. Half documentary-half rock hounding/lapidary/gemology lesson, and half gorgeous views, fun and good times -Mike
