Thanks.
The sphere is 3.75"
The darn thing had a fracture in it that I did not see until I finished the 200 grind, so I had to make a 2nd one. :-) The cool thing about the serpentine spheres is they only take about 6-7 hours to make.

Beautiful sphere. Interesting to see all the process.
You only place that chamfered cube in between those two cups and that's all? Does it spin by itself or do you have to change its position from time to time?

...serpentine is pink...? Where I live, it's quite green...

that was cool to see it from start to finish. I would be lucky to get the preform cut in the amount of time you made the sphere. looks like a lot of time in the slab saw and a lot of repositioning of the rock to get all those cuts.
thanks for the detailed pictures!

I need to get my machine running. I have some nice stones from friends in AZ.
Nice work Tim! I've never seen red serpentine.

Sweet sphere, and that Cholla cactus makes a great sphere stand too.

Adrian, I left a few pic's out. As far as red serpentine, I have no idea. This material was identified by two different geologist at the old Arizona Ming Museum as Serpentine, so thats what I call it. What ever it is I LIKE it. :-) Scott, hurry up and fix your machine! I have been waiting for some pic's from you. Here is the pre-grind from the cabbing unit, getting ready to put it in the sphere machine. Using a chop saw makes quick work out of cutting the preform.

In several California locations, red in serpentine is cinnabar inclusions, that sure is a beautiful sphere!

I need to get me a chop saw, or make mine! As for the red serpentine, that's sure interesting, and a nice change from the green stuff!
