I would say you will have by the weekend. Rockshed ships fast. You will be happy with that rock order. Sometimes I miss the good old days when we just had a couple 3 pound barrels and were able to order rock from Shawn but then the addiction takes over and you end up tumbling 40 pounds at a time and paying 4 bucks a pound for rough just don't work anymore.

I'm with Chuck. I have to say though that I also cannot afford large quantities of the fancier stuff like tiger eye. Picking up a pound or two from the Rock Shed is nice way to have access to good quality rock like that and not have to buy 5 or ten pounds at a time.

Hi all
I wanted to make shere I was corect. Can I tumble Tiger Eye, Dalmation Stone, Mexican Red Jasper all together in the tumbler? I know that the Jasper is a little softer then the Tiger Eye but I was thinking they are very close and that I could tumble them all together.
Thanks Roger

Roger,
I do not think you should have any problem mixing jasper and tiger eye, but I haven't done it, so maybe someone else here has personal experience. They are about the same hardness. You'll need to watch out for the Dalmation stone however. It's an oddball mixture of albite and quartz, and the black is some kind of amphibole. It seems to me to be pretty hard, hard as quartz even, but I think you'll find that it grinds faster than either the jasper or tiger eye.
What I'd recommend is each time you need to recharge the barrel for another round of 60/90, remove and set aside those individual rocks (whatever kind they might be) that are ready for the 120/220. Replace them with more of the medium and small rock. You'll probably have most of the Dalmation stone already set aside for the 120/220 before the last of the tiger eye and jasper are ready.
Pulling out rocks one at a time as they are ready to be moved is the way I usually tumble everything. Even batches of all the same rock. It conserves as much of the rock as possible, rather than making everything grind away until last ugly one is finally ready to be moved.

I just mixed tiger eye and zebra jasper (both from the Rockshed) with good results. There are some soft areas on the tiger eye, which turned the tumble to mud, but this would have happened regardless of what it was tumbled with.

You ought to join the rock club and go collect at Lake Falcon/Zapata area.I think it is 'The Houston Rock Club'.That area will give you all the rocks you will ever need for your tumbler.

Yes I would love to go there and look for rocks. I think it is over by Corpus Christy. I am a member of the Clear Lake Rock and Mineral club and if they have a trip there I will make it a point to go. Roger
