geode

I have this "shower vision". I see a sphere made from a colorful geode. The geode of my vision has colorful layers and is roughly football shaped. This way I can grind it into a sphere and have the colorful layers show on the areas were the long ends have been removed.
The extended version of my vision includes a geode with an opening to a crystal filled void. Then I would have this colorful agatey sphere with a view to the crystal interior.
So.... how do I find such an animal? Does anyone have advice on what type of geode to start my search for? I don't wanna dig it. I wanna buy it. Failing the buy I will consider a dig.
Thanks for reading. If you can help out, please and thank you.
Yeah, I know. My shower dreaming is a little obtuse.

I think that you are assuming the bands in a geode to be uniform through out. I would bet that once you start truing up the geode it would have some outstanding bandings. Since your sphere machine is broke, send me a couple of T-Eggs and I will turn them up. :-)
So this should narrow down your search.

Tim that one is eye candy! Great stone.
My sphere machine aint broke. It's just not set up. I bought it last year and never set it up. With class only once a week & I rarely go more than twice a month I am too long between watching a rock ball go roundy'round!
So... Orrum, what's a regular geode?
I did buy some very nice mex-lace with what seems to be a large pocket of druzy stuff. That could be something similar. But I still need to get an idea for what locality of geode to play with?

I've seen what you're talking about done with a Brazilian agate geode and it was awesome. Brazilians come in large sizes for reasonable prices and are often partially hollow....Mel

Are you maybe looking for a geode like this: pinterest.com/pin/251357222923420511/or this pinterest.com/pin/251357222923447993/Both of these on Pinterest. Sorry, couldn't just post the pictures here (need to be able to log in to twitter or facebook - nope!). They are just gorgeous!!! Jean modified to add - Here's one more, it's football shaped - Oh wait, the geode is football shaped, and so is the "sphere." I was thinking you're planning a spherical sphere...

Scott, the website that sphere came from (besides Pinterest) is spheresdumonde.com/. (Pictures are copyrighted.) The website is in both French and English, sooo maybe France? Canada? He has a link to the Munich show (2009), so probably France. There's a link at the bottom of the page to email the guy, ask him where he got the one in question? He says he has approximately 180 spheres in his personal collection - lots of nice ones! Twenty pages of photos of spheres, all very drool-worthy! I looked through the site, but could not find where he is located, or even his name. Maybe I just missed it... Jean

Hey I am a neebie but seems like geodes r round if you peel it enough its gotta look great if there r layers n lines right? Well, that depends on how spherical the original geode is, how concentric the layers are and also how thick they are. Get the wrong geode and all I get is one layer all one color. I spent some time researching this further. Between private messages and my own research I have my answer's on how to proceed! Thanks everyone! Looks like Quartzite is now a MUST GO!! 2014, see you all then!
