it's that sound of rocks hitting rock that woke me up this morning. It was coming from my #4 barrel of my A-R2, my polish barrel.. Normally its sooo quiet. Last batch to come out of polish most my rocks had bruises, (ok cracks, chips etc).
Even before my coffee I had #4 open. the slurry is like water. I know I'm not grinding rock now but what should it look like?
I added a teaspoon Tripoli. I would think the slurry would be thick and smooth. the Tripoli seems to stop the rock on rock sound for now but..
maybe this is worth saying but air pressure? it spit when I opened it. it's under my kitchen sink and it is pretty cool under there so I figured it would go more into a vacuum than pressure?
I know I go on and on...sorry.

I fill mine to the top with plastic beans for the polish stage. It is not uncommon to get pressure especially in the grind mode because there can be a little flora in the rock. I am not an expert but that is what I have heard. Others that know more than me will probably jump in here. Jim

Spiffman, what material are you tumbling? If glass, then yes, you are going to get some pressure. What's in your barrel?

Also, how much water did you have in there?

I usually burp my barrels after the first day on a rough grind. And every 2-3 days afterwards. Many rocks will off-gas and if it gets too great it will blow the top off and sling a mess everywhere.

You know I never would have thought rocks would gas out like that, make since now tho. I filled the barrel 1 inch from the top with about 1 lbs Lapis, a hand full of .25 size apatite the rest is plastic fill topped it off with 1 cup of good'ol North Carolina water which was just below everything. I glad you said that about filling it to the top of the barrel wampidy, that's going to help a lot in polish I do believe.
