Same stuff Scott. Inclusions are, according to Sinkankas, radiating magnetite crystals though, not hematite....Mel

Scott, Yep I've heard that type of jade can be electroplated. Some of the Porterville Jade has magnetite too but the crystals are just tiny rods, not fans and sprays. A refrigerator magnet will stick to some of the slabs though....Mel

That is just neat looking stuff!!!! Wonder if it will take a good polish, despite being soft? A lot of super soft rocks take excellent shine (rhodocrosite, bumblebee, seraphinite too). Those are amazing looking patterns!!!

Thank you to everybody for all your help with IDing this material. I must apologize for not being on RTH this last month. It has been a very stressful couple weeks with work. The material has been positively ID as Black Jade with magnetite inclusions out of the California mines mentioned by Mel and a few others mentioned. I was blessed this week to be able to attend a Jade ID class by a local Washington Jade hound Jeff Chang. His experience, locations and history was brilliantly shared to a group of 6 locals from our Rock Club. While he was showing some of his work done making jade spears. One of them I instantly recognized as one identical to what I had with me. I asked if he could ID the specimen that brought which was the one photo's above and without hesitation it was ID'd as Black Jade with magnetite out of California. He even pulled a cab out that he was electroplating gold and it brilliant work. I'm bummed I couldn't get a picture of his work as he was moving on quickly to other topics. I can't wait to learn how to electroplate and I'm putting this material aside for now till I gave much more experience with cab making. I learned so much about jade and can't wait to go out and hound jade from the tools I learned at his class. He is offering a small group class on cab making and I'm going to jump on the opportunity to learn more from Jeff. Jeff was so generous to. During the ID portions of his class he was giving material away as he was showing the difference between specimen, stabbing and gem material jade. He was asking the 6 of us to guess a number between 1 & 6. I kept missing the numbers I thought he was done playing the give away game when he he gave away a specimen piece valued around $250 on ebay but when he moved onto gem grade jade he picked up an 7x4is gem quality Jade weighing 6 pounds and I my jaw dropped when I guessed the number correctly. I posted a pic below in poor lighting on my cell but it is breath taking and high the most beautiful high ring tone to it when struck. There is apple greens, reds and purple stripping throughout it. I am going to hand polish the flat surface (as shown in pic) with just a couple light coats of Snake gun oil as he mentioned in his class and it's going straight into my display cabinet. His generosity was so humbling and I'm so grateful to have had this experience. Thank you all once again for all your generosity here on RTH. I have and will continue to value everything I have learned from so many on here. Cheers, Matt Attachments:

Fine looking hunk of jade Matt. You're very lucky living in Washington if you like jade. The Darrington region is rich with jade deposits of many types. I've got bluish, zebra, snowflake, chromoflec nephrite etc. all from that area and have a little Washington jadeite jade too. Very good state for jade hunting....Mel

That is really great. Every aspect of this thread was great. You got tentative ID from Mel and then positive ID too! Plus a gorgeous hunk of Jade for your efforts. Awesome!
My friend in Kassel Germany would say "zooopaaaa!!!!"
