Howdy folks, Here's the material after 11 days in coarse grind and one recharge. A lot of the load is on week one now as I had to add more rough to make up for the loss in size from the grind. A few of these are ready to move on to fine grind too. Closer shots this time....Mel Mostly Hornitos brecciated, cosmos and firefly jasper. A few hunks of the small orb poppy were in the batch too.

Closer is better. Those materials are too pretty to photograph at a distance,a lot of details to look at.What is that breccia in there, you said honritos brecciated? Is that stuff soft,it seems to round off fast?Sorry to be so curious but that is cool jasper Mel.

James. My rotary is faster than most so even hard jasper like this rounds fairly fast. Plus I use a lot of grit. The brecciated material comes from two sites but there is a lot of brecciated material associated with the poppy jasper up there. My buddy and I found a huge monolithic rock that was probably a hundred feet in diameter that was brecciated jasper so solid you couldn't even get a chisel into it. The bright red comes from the old Sierra Jasper pit originally found back in the 60's. The darker, more maroon type comes from a hilltop owned by a neighbor of mine probably three or four miles from the other site. Hornitos brecciated jasper is just a catch all for all the types of breccia in the region of the old town of Hornitos. The brecciated types are often much more solid than the poppy types from the area.....Mel

What kind of rotary tumbler do you have, Mel? I get frustrated with the first stage because it takes months for harder rocks.

Rob, I have an MJR tumbler. They eventually slow down a bit but when you first get them, they turn at about twice the RPMs of a Lortone or a Thumbler. Only good for tough rocks like agate and jasper until they slow a bit but man, they really round off agate and jasper quickly. Don't buy their barrels though, I use Lortone 12 and six pound barrels and they work swell on this base unit. Have to keep the base unit well lubed with gear lube too or else it can burn out a bearing or shaft. The Lortone barrels seem to last for years on this unit and the unit I have has been going mostly 24/7 for like seven years now so it's pretty strong tumbler..Mel

Thanks for the info, Mel. I forgot I had asked the question. There was a thread on here a while ago about the manufacturer of those being impossible to reach, wasn't there? Is the company still in business?

They ares still currently being sold on E-Bay. I had contacted the seller about belts several times and not reply. Don't know what the status of parts is at all now but he sure does not seem responsive.....Mel

That's a shame if it's a good tumbler. Thanks again for the info.
