Those are my son's favorite rocks to polish. He just grinds away on the whole rock until it's all shiny. His desk has a big pile on it, and there are a bunch more under his bed. Actually, most of the rocks we've polished are under his bed!

Very cool! The first pic reminds me of a magnified finger print. I have a few of these but never tried anything with them.
