Sometimes you just gotta take your lumps and this new material I got just wont tumble well. I have tried about 3 completely different methods and this last one was 50 percent ceramics 25 percent obsidian and 25 percent snake print jasper. I used TNTMOMS obsidian formula and at this point I give up. The snake print frosted at the 120/220 stage and just got worse as they went in the lot-o. I had tried previously in the rotary and got the same results. The good news is I have a few more nice pieces of obsidian now. heres the bad ![](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/drummondislandrocks/3-19-13%20tumble/DSC06478_resize_zps6790d7ca.jpg) this one has a cab I did in it to show it will shine on the diamond wheels ![](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/drummondislandrocks/3-19-13%20tumble/DSC06485_resize_zps20e5e8a4.jpg) at least I got some keepers for my efforts ![](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/drummondislandrocks/3-19-13%20tumble/DSC06473_resize_zps961bf345.jpg) ![](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/drummondislandrocks/3-19-13%20tumble/DSC06475_resize_zps1ed49d19.jpg) thanks for looking Chuck

Wow. I am surprised by the variability in the shine on those 2 groups of rocks. Pretty crazy. The second group looks great though

That Snake Print looks similar to a jasper? that is found on the Tennessee/Georgia state line.It is tricky to polish.Does that material break easy?

That's a shame about the jasper but the obsidian looks grand! I don't know enough about vibe tumbling yet but could the difference in mohs be an issue (OB 5 & Jasper 7ish?) if that was the case I'd think it would be the OB that would have frosted.
I have had the same issue with Red Jasper tumbles where 10 percent polished amazingly and the rest continued to look porus and frosted. It was just bad material in my situation.
I love how cool that snake jasper looks though. I've never seen snake jasper before.
Wishing you a future of happier vibe shines. Matt

james - This material is from Tennessee and the seller gave me his address and offered for us to stop by if we were ever in the area but I will will have to check to see what part of Tennessee it was. He is selling on ebay and it sounds like he is just using a backhoe on his property and digging up this stuff and some good epodite too. He threw in some epodite samples and I slabbed and cabbed those.
I would still order it again as its only like $2 a pound and the slabs and cabs look good. I just hate when I cant tumble my cabbing scraps.
