Well folks, just got back from the Canyon Ride and I'm pooped! I've come to the conclusion that , at my age, an easy two hour ride is way better than a rough four hour ride *L* Quite a few folks canceled as the day was supposed to be very windy but the day turned out fantastic so the eleven of us who rode had a good time. No injuries to horse or rider either so that was also cool. My wife snapped a pic of me as we were getting ready to head out so here it is , even though as usual I find it embarassing when I see how old I am and how friggin big I am, Hopper is actually about 15.2 hands and husky but my 6' 4" 228 pounds makes it look like he should be riding me *L*. Next time I'll have her take my pic on Flint who is jousting horse big so I'll look normal sized I hope. She also took a couple of cute pics of our latest crop of calves which I'm enclosing just because I like the little boogers. We've gone to an Angus bull now with a lot of Charolais cows so we get all different color combinations.....Mel

Yikes!!! You make Hopper look like a pony!!! (wow, he's a beauty- gelding?) Time to lose some weight before Hopper gets sway-backed!!!
My batshit crazy greenbroke 1/2 Arabian was a small 14.5 hands, while my paint (Scout- my big gentle baby) was 16.3 hands. I think you'd have squished Scout...

I was being a smart-ass too. You're a very handsome man Mel, and NOT overweight. But even super skinny men that are 6'4" are going to look big on any horse except a Clydesdale, or whatever they used for Medieval war horses:P.

*L* Thank you all for the kind words. I could stand to lose a few pounds but I also ride an Aussie drover saddle that is 20 pounds lighter than the western rigs most my friends ride, so it kind of evens out. Far as the handsome comment goes Helen, you're too sweet and may need some glasses cause I'm a homely old poke *L*.
Rode Hopper again this afternoon as we had a bunch of dudes to take out and he was in a real grouchy mood after that long ride yesterday. Tried to bite me so I cuffed him and then I swear, he stomped my toes on purpose. Dang thing! Next weekend I've got a couple of more rides and I'm taking out Flint. I'll try to have the wife take a pic of me on him. He's a young monster almost 1300 pounds and as sweet as Hopper is mean. I figure this old carcase of mine can use a break from being beat up on all the time and I ought to look smaller on his back *L*. If that don't work we just bought another horse named King who is lighter weight but even taller. Now I just have to find me a crane to lift me onto Flint's back cause that guy is one tall climb into the saddle....Mel
