I was wondering tonight as I am looking through all my goodies ...
How many of you have wrapped un-polished cabs?
Do not know if this is hard and fast rule about wrapping only polished cabs.
Thanks!!!

I've only wrapped polished cabs, but you just gave me an idea. Black obsidian (in a satin finish) wrapped in polished sterling silver. Damn, I think that I'm gonna try it. Hell yeah, I'll post when I do one.

Yes ! in fact I was hooked on wrapping flat river rocks with shinny wire and beads, and still like the effect. Welcome and rock on..................................Hub

Wrap what you want - you are the artist!

i would say most drusy cabs are not polished
i see a fair number of fossil bits (e.g, teeth) that are not polkished
polish reveals pattern and color, so unpolished pieces would need interest - perhaps from texture
in a larger sense, wraps are a form of jewelry art, and the only rule in art is does it "work"

I agree with Daniel, polish tends to reveal the patters and colors of the stones so unpolished stones would need to be embellished with beads, wire, or have a distinct look all on their own. Will look forward to seeing what you make.

I've wrapped an opal that was polished smooth but not til it was shinny, and it wasn't a cab, more like a shaped stone I guess. Here: And I've wrapped geodes cut in half, polished the flat cut but left the druzy and rough outside intact: I think it just depends on what you're wrapping Krista

Black obsidian in satin finish would remind me of a satin or flat black motorcycle in shiny chrome parts, very cool! ;D

I've done quite a few rocks. It's all in the wrap. If it works for you and you can wear it, it's all good.

If it's not polished, can it still be called a cab? I think not. Unpolished stones are just that - stones. Doesn't mean they can't be pretty and make up jewelry, but I don't think we can call them cabochons....

I think I'd have to agree with Phil, call 'em what they are, cabbed, facetted, cut, tumbled, shaped or rough. Knowledge and honesty are best Krista
