Hi everyone, I am wondering if anyone can tell me what type of agate this is and, more importantly, where I can get some of them. It was collected by someone I knew who found them somewhere in Wyoming. But that's all the info I have. If anyone knows their name, whereabouts or where to purchase them, I would greatly appreciate any info you may have to share. Thanks, :-) Dave Attachments:

if you want to attach more that 1 photo to a post look for the sticky on it in the forum home, but basically you need to use a photo service like photobucket which is what, I believe, most use here to post their pics.
Not sure about the agate part of that but the crystals on it remind me of something called 'Fairy/Angel Wings' and it is separate from the rock underneath... if nothing else it is a nice specimen.. if it is indeed Fairy/Angel wings

Since you want it named. It's name is George. ROFL!! It kinda looks like angel wing agate (twickenham) from Oregon. Not sure what you have meta, but it's gorgeous material!

Yep, the formation is called angel wing agate. Usually contains plume and one of the sites where it occurs pretty often is Graveyard Point bit the same formation also occurs at Bull Canyon and other sites....Mel

If it is truly from Wyoming, then the only angel wing in that locale I'm familiar with comes from near Lysite WY. The pieces of that I've seen have had some brownish plume inside. Oregon has quite a few types that include those mentioned above, most of which are now difficult or impossible to dig (dug and sliced to get at the plumes inside).

Hey Sabre,
I mapquested those 2 locations you mentioned and it puts Bull Canyon in Carbon Wyoming, but it does not find Graveyard Point. Can you tell me what town Graveyard Canyon is in so that I can find it on mapquest?
I think I will check out both those sites, as well as Lysite, when I get into Wyoming, probably in June.
Also, in case I strike out, does anyone have any of this Angel Wing Agate for sale or does anyone know of a shop or person who does?
Thanks, :-) Meta

Graveyard Point is actually in Idaho. Here's a link to hand drawn pdf map I found on PepplePup.com www.pebblepup.com/maps/Gaveyard%20Point%20-%20Succour%20Creek%20-%20McBride%20Creek%20Oregon-Idaho%20Border.pdf. It also has some locations marked for other rocks. Not sure of the exact coordinates, but here's a link to area on ACME Mapper - mapper.acme.com/?ll=43.57321,-117.02147&z=15&t=R&marker0=32.85532%2C-114.78691%2C32.8553221%20-114.7869039&marker1=32.93826%2C-114.86822%2C8.6%20mi%20NxNW%20of%20Ogilby%20CA&marker2=32.98952%2C-114.79855%2C7.8%20mi%20SW%20of%20Imperial%20National%20Wildlife%20Refuge%20AZ&marker3=43.57210%2C-118.23880%2Cwinamucca%20oregon&marker4=43.61766%2C-116.93376%2Chomedale%20idaho You may also want to go to their website, "Pebblepup - The Rock Hound Experience) and read their blog. There are probably several Bull Canyons but the one the agate comes from is on the northern California/Nevada Border. or so the guy who sold me mine said and he was supposed to be the mine owner. The agate lexicon says Bull canyon is in Arizona and gives map co ordinates so I don't know who to believe. I'm not sure of the exact location other than that as it's not in any of my books and is, I believe, a private claim.

Graveyard Point is actually in Idaho. Although the Graveyard Point marker is on the Idaho side of the line, the productive diggings are to the west and southwest on the Oregon side. Easiest way to get to them (better roads) just happens to be to go through Homedale Idaho. BTW, the older version of Gem Trails of Oregon has bad information. Instead of going to the Graveyard Point marker and continuing west on a nonexistent road, you bypass the road on which the marker is located altogether, going south, then west. The latest edition of Gem Trails has a corrected map with good driving directions (lent mine out, so I can't give directions).
