My first barrel of 60-90 will be done in about an hour and I plan on following Johns suggestion about running a few hour cycle of Borax with the rinsed rocks to clean the barrel and the rocks. About how much Borax should I put in a fifteen lb barrel?
Thanks Bob

Thats about what I did Cookie. I cook that way too, I just put it in till I think it's enough and add some more. Going back with 60-90 one more time with most of the load. Some was ready for stage two. The chunk of Quartz I thew in that I got from Banjo was ready for stage two and looked really nice. I busted up some Arkansa quartz that I have laying around along with some agates and some drop off from my saw to make a full barrel. I'm probabley going to get a Lortone QT-66 to use for pre-polish and polish. Ordered 50# of 60-90 grit from the place in Georgia last Wednesday. Still haven't recieved it. Guess I need to call her tomorrow and check on it. Later Bob

Sorry, I mean "Thats the way I cook too" Kim. I tried to put "Kim" bold but it didn't work. Anybody else have trouble with the buttons on top?

Where did you guys find Borax? I've looked everywhere around here and can't find it. I've been using grated Ivory ( bath bars, not dish soap). It works, but sooner or later I'm going to end up with grated soap in my cheese (I use the same grater) and I can't think that would be pleasant ! Barbara

I found borax at K-mart. Also you can find it if you have a Lowes hardware store. But most groceries stores have it .

Hey Barbara, only brand I've found in stores is Twenty Mule Team Borax in the laundry additives area. Bought mine in KMart also, but I see it in our Kroger grocery store as well as our Farmer Jack (A & P) grocery store.

Anyway, I have learned one thing: I Must leave my stones in the firststage longer. I just know how visualy to tell. Hey Cookie, patience is what it's all about. Be patient with all of your stages. You have to fight the urge to think "no problem, it'll clean up in the next stage". If something needs cleaning up, clean it up before you move to the next stage. You'll be happy you did!

Thanks for the locatin of the Borax. My wife has banned me from the grocery store when she shops. She says that I act worse than my kids. Actually that was my plan to get out of grocery shopping! ;D
Now when I go into the grocery store, I spend an hour looking for stuff. Oh Well.

Hey Barbera, I found mine at HEB in the laundry detergent aisle. I had to look real hard because I was looking for the old black and white box that had a picture on top of a twenty mule team with wagon that I remember as a kid. They changed the box to, I think, green and yellow and no more pic of the mule team. It seems there new mascot is some lady called the "Queen of Clean". They have a picture of her instead. she looks kind of like that maid on the TV show called Hazel.

Hey Barbara, check HEB. It's in a green and white box now. Insread of the old black and white box. Bob
