Howdy folks, No not flint the rock, Flint the horse *L*. Finally we have a horse proportionate to my body size. We bought three new mounts from a ranch out in West Texas, one little barb looking part Paso and two big grays. This big fleabitten gray is my favorite. He's jousting horse big, close to 1300 pounds and well over 16 hands, and very sweet tempered. The three horses were named Tejas, King son of Thunder, and Clover. We all decided "Clover" was a very sissy, non Texican name for a giant gelding so we renamed him Flint so folks won't think he's from San Fran-cis-co or sumthin. Here's a pic of me and "Flint" getting ready for this afternoon's trail ride....Mel

You look ready to stirrup some trouble!
(sorry...couldn't resist - damn 6th grade humor)
Glad you're out and riding on a horse with a 'manly' name now!
Lowell
(ps. The ventura club gave you a thank you in the bulletin for your help with kid's booth material. They appreciated your donation. I showed some of the newer members your polished pieces and they practically fell over trying to figure out your secret to your shine.)

Flint's got a really pretty face horse:). Definitely better proportioned, but a big 17 hand horse would fit you even better (I know, how many 17 hand horses are around), I still think Clydesdale!!

*LOL* Helen, with these old knees it took me a couple of tries to hop on this one. Got a neighbor who has a percheron/arab cross over 17 hands, shoot, maybe over 18, I'm not sure. The neighbor is about as tall as me and heck, he almost needs a ladder to mount that horse. We were on a ride a couple of years ago and he tied Zakir to a tie rail. That horse just pulled the whole tie rail and the concrete anchors out of the ground and was walking around with it *L*. I reckon young Flint is enough horse for me....Mel

How I used to get on Scout (16.3 hands) was with a 5 gallon bucket turned upside down, I'd keep the bucket by their gate, so I could close the gate, then mount (I used to ride him around with just his blanket, no saddle). Falling off was easy back at the gate. Scout was so gentle, you could put a baby on him. He would get even calmer and nicer when children were around. He was only bad when he was hungry or nervous... tho from his perspective, nothing he did was bad I'm sure:).
No one says you have to JUMP on the horse's back you know... LOL!

Helen: "Hop" was only a figure of speech. It's more like groan, heave, scramble, climb, haul and crawl over his back to the saddle. Flint is still kind of spirited. Has an odd habit of going kind of side to side when he trots or lopes along with the up and down. Kind of like a roller coaster *L* and like Hopper he's a fast mover too. It always amazes me how quick even a big honking horse can be but the ranch he came from trained him well. He's really a fun ride!....Mel

Beautiful looking horse. I know those jousting guys like to have the biggest most powerful horses. Your a big ol dude. You look like a true cowboy. Id look like I was doing the splits on that horse. It looks like you have some dream property. My dad use to live next to a guy that had a few horses when I was a kid. Every time I went over there I had to go visit the them. One of them would kick a big ball around. I would kick it as far as I could and the horse would get all excited and kick it around. Horses are on my short list of favorite animals. Id love to see wild horses like in Montana or somewhere where they roam free. Those are the studliest horses.

bhiatt: My wife and I went to dig Dryhead Agate in southern Montana one time right in the Pryor Mountains wild horse range. Had the pleasure of seeing large herds of wild mustangs in the wild. It was really something to see. I have a great love for horses and mustangs, well they are fantastic.....Mel
