..... I did it my own way. As mentioned earlier, I was told not to use a certain design for practice, plus the piece breaking apart on me, I was about to move on to something else. But then, I thought better of it. Removed all the marks, sat down, and just got cutting working from memory of the previous piece. But as you can see on the right, the overall shape is rather awkward. So I redid that yesterday and started sanding to 1200 grid paper In the picture from the left, rough, 600 grid and 1200 grid paper Capturing the color is a pain in the neck, its pink under most light-conditions but at certain angles its purple on about 70% of the surface. To get the purple on the right; I had to use lowest ASA setting on my camera. So today it was back to 600 grid as I can see in the pictures, that I did not reach a few areas, and now, here we are. Best regards, Kurt

Turned out very well! Frequently telling me I shouldn't try something is like waving a red flag in front of me. A good challenge. Learn a lot that way of what to do and what not to do.
Glad you went ahead.

Thanks girls,
I'm not yet very happy with it, but as I don't have a solution for the problem for the time being; this will have to do. I look at it at hand and everything seems fine, but..... when I look at the pictures, the edges are waaaayyyy to soft and rounded. There simply seems no crispiness in the piece.

Well... can you use a pointy drill bit and deepen the ridges for better definition?

Yeah Helen, one can do that, but those points are used up very very quickly and more often than not these days, I find myself in the position where standard burrs simply do not fit anymore.

kk, since being told not to do something comes out so very nice; I think you should not try to make a scarab beetle from Montana. Definitely a bad idea. Don't do it! B-)
