Thanks Daniel. The yellow and orange came from an outer section of a refrigerator sized coral sticking out of the ground that had freeze cracks allowing me to split 10-30 pound chunks off with a chisel.

Something crushed or froze them Mel.Most of them have been splintered into fractions.Plenty of 3-5 foot rosettes still in tact in the Withlacoochee and Suwanee rivers, also in the deep irrigation ditches of the orange groves around Zephyr Hills a couple hundred miles further south. The agate varies a lot from the top to the bottom or from the buried side to the exposed side of a single head. Drilling a well on the east coast along the St John's river often results in an artesian well.Either you do not get one or you get one that yields 120 gallons per minute in a 4 inch well at ave, 140 feet deep. The average depth of the sand before hitting cave infested limestone with water flowing in them. The old ocean floor and lots of shark teeth and dugong ribs. But no coral. They outlawed 6 inch wells except for agriculture, flowing 4-600 gallons per minute-no pump.To let your artesian well flow you must have water frontage on a river and certain creeks.I use mine to grow highly tropical aquatic plants w/out a greenhouse(geothermally heated). One year it was 17 degrees 3 nites in a row and i had several hundred tropical water lily blooms with out a bit of damage. They are growing in a 200 x 20 foot pond with full 100+ GPM cross flow during winter to protect them.Cut the 72 degree flow way back during warm weather to let sun cook water out to 90+.It is the Ocala aquifer and said to be the largest-who knows for sure. The water is tested virgin like glacier water.Coral lines the path, imagine that:>

There is a pile of them the size of a house down in Zephyr Hills Fl. Brad. They are a nuiscance to the orange farmers. They hate them. They get in the way when digging drainage ditches. And the ones like this one are in the way of fisherman-so they hate them. They are refferred to as common rock which is fine w/me.Your dino bone commands respect.I guess it is rarer and more awe inspiring being a T rex! Just cooked a batch that turned out some uuuuugly colors.Lots of black from salts i'm sure. This coral is 200 miles south of the stuff i have been posting.Near the infamous phosphate pits of Polk County Fl.Perfect for Goth,Sci Fi,Styeampunk jewels. Will post pics soon of course.

I chip a lot of tumbling material. And that can be tricky and demanding. There is a lot of different ways, like starting with a preform,or doing w/out diamond cutting assistance.

its a shame that folks in the area refer to it as common rock. All that them contractors think about is money and sounds like they havent taken the time to realize how special the coral really is and the geological history behind it. I think its pretty fascinating that you yourself find coral hundreds of miles away from the current ocean. History of the earth is mind boggling. yeah nothing trumps dino bone but I really like the coral. I didnt realize how cool it could be until I seen what you have. It polishes up so nice and is super hard.

Well,it is what it is.It is all so political. They made collecting coral on the beach about illegal.I think they did that because collectors were using destructive methods. And the rivers are rarely travelled so collecting pressure is very lite. But dino bone is a fossil of an inconceivable animal. And it is certainly a gemstone. It presents a problem. It will always create trouble-just my opinion.I know that i would sneak some in to cut,and leave some for mother nature. But who am i to say how much to leave.I would like to visit a petrified forest or uncovered dinosaur preserved.I would rather a private guy preserve it and own it than the govt.Florida lets you collect invertabate fossils w/out a permit.Put a backbone in there and they want to keep up w/it... I would relax. You can not control what happens w/those resources. What will, will.
