Is there anyone on here familiar with the Tonopah Nevada area ? I was through Tonopah and saw several pieces of wonder stone that must have come from a quarry in that area and i would like to find a contact person . Thanks Wayne

You might inquire around there about turquoise mines to hunt in. There is some very nice stuff comes out of the area. I have not been personally but have turquoise from there that is a light blue from a closed mine once operated by Tiffanys.

We collected the wonderstone many years ago. It was all open land then. West of town is all I remember. It isn't as colorful as the Fallon area wonderstone. Some is very grainy as well. A lot of limb casts in the general area too. I'm sure it would be in a NV Gem Trails book.

The wonderstone at Fallon can be porcelain hard, as well as colourful.

The material around Tonapah is much less colorful. Part of the out cropping (by where you park) looks like sand stone. The guy that owned the rock shop in Fallon let us collect at his claim as well. I don't know if that area is still open. He was selling it to someone that was going to blast it out for landscape rock although a friend went back the next year and it was still open then. He died a few years later and another guy took over the rock shop. I've heard the rock shop closed last year.

If I remember right, the Tonapah stuff is in pink and blue/grey tones.
