Yes. I did it before I had the Lot-O, so purely rotary. I began with 200 grit--and ran it in three day increments until I was happy with the shape, etc. Then 500 (3 days) and 1000 (3 days). Polish was AO from the Rockshed, and if memory is correct, it took several weeks for an okay polish.
I used 50% ceramic shapes throughout, and also a little bit of Ivory Soap shavings in each load. You can also increase the load to more than 2/3rds to slow down the action, but I would skip the Ivory Soap if I went that route.

Thanks for the reply! Your method sounds great and I will try it. I have both a rotary and a lot-o. The lot-o is new and I am still experimenting with it. My neighbor just found a huge chunk of rose quartz (football sized) right up the hill from me-- I am jealous! Again, thanks for the info--Jean

I have both rock&rolling and vibe. I'm new to this game also and I tumbled some apatite with other stones in its MOHs. apatite, is very porous i found with the batch I bought, but with that said the vibe worked better, for me, than I got with the R&R.and FYI don't let apatite "ever" dry out between stages... I know someone who did that once...
