yeah. The apache sage slab. I marked those, then decided not to cut it. The jasper is a little grainy, and maybe the slab was more than the parts. Now I am leaning towards cutting it again, and maybe treating with Hxtal.

I know I'm late to this. I just saw the thread today. I sent you a picture just for the fun of it.

Just saw the orangy piece you sent in the mail Daniel! I just started going through my 2 weeks worth now, but it came much sooner!
It's GORGEOUS! I will probably not be cabbing very soon, but this would be the first piece I do... I love it:)!!! Thanks again, it was fun!!

You are welcome. BTW, there has likely been a small earthquake in the Franciscan formation as Stone Canyon shudders at being called "orangy". <grin>

It's taken me a long time... but I finally got around to cabbing... and this was the first thing I cabbed, as I said I would. First, I want to fess up to accidentally dropping the original slab on the ground. I almost cried, because it would have made a beautiful HUGE cab with minimal shaping (being lazy about cabbing, I like minimal shaping:P). But then I decided that it might make a more interesting 2 part cab. Here's the original piece from Daniel: Here's what I did with it (sorry about the messy background, that's my computer mouse pad:P): It's not flawless, but both pieces are nice-looking cabs, and I like the organic shapes... it's a diptych of abstract butterflies . I thought I should show you, despite that it's been a few months, that I not only made it into a cab(s), but it was the first thing I have cabbed since I got it. I will probably do a bit more grinding later, since the lower left side was undercut by my mean vibe tumbler, but I'm still in love with the rock itself. It is by far my favorite piece of stone canyon, out of several nice pieces. Thanks again Daniel:).

Daniel, it's a HUGE cab... the length is nearly 3 1/2" long, so it's way too large for a pendant, tho it would make an impressive one:).
If I ever decided to 'set' it, it would be a broach. How would I set it? I would mount it in silver, with a silver seam between the 2 fragmented pieces, and then a third thinner cab, in an identical matching black, on the left side that would turn the entire broach shape into an oval. There would be silver between all 3 segments (going to 4 would be far too busy).
I would probably make a small color matched yellow/white 'caterpillar' with front 1/2 slightly elevated, looking towards the right, that would glue onto the black left section, just below the stone canyon divider seam to overhang a bit of the silver. I like simple settings, so just a plain beveled silver border.
