Hi folks - Been a long time since I offered a virtual cab contest. 1) Download the pic below, use the software of your choice to compose a unique and creative cab proposal. (Lets keep it simple and skip edge effects (e.g., feather bevel, emboss) and fancy backgrounds. Avoid resizing.) 2) Give a reply if you intend to compete. 3) Use the front or back - but not both. Whatever shape or freeform you want. 4) When you are done, PM me your design, and a few remarks about why you did what you did. Attachment and/or img link. 5) After a week or so, I'll call time, and post the entries for everyone to see. For a few days, members can comment. Contestants can add to their remarks. 6) I'll consider comments, but I pick the winner. 7) Winner gets the slab, I'll even cover full US postage, and/or a portion of overseas postage. Let's have fun!

Only 1 entry, but anytime before time is called, you can send a superseding one.
Heck even make posts discussing what you want to do, or asking advice. But best do it without a picture. If someone takes your idea and improves on it, I will go with best and not original.

Kudos to the early birds Jo and Gary. Welcome Adrian. Counting Helen, we are up to 4 contestants, with two entries received already.
FYI, it is a sonoran dendritic slab.
Rotate as you please, but try not to distort. Also, you can send lines marked on the slab, or cut it out and send a virtual cab. If you want me to tweak symmetry or make any adjustment just let me know. I will try my best.
The image is scanned at 150 dpi. I will put everybody's entry on a neutral background with ruler margins.

OK, 5 entries received and 1 in the works. And this only started on Monday?
A couple of people made straight edges and asked me to add a slight curve because their software could not. I was glad to do this. So if you want to play, don't be shy about sending a crude markup or shape and asking for a little assistance - as long as youa re clear about the composition and dimensions, we can get it done.
Should we leave this open through the weekend? I'm sort of impatient, but some folks are weekend RTH'ers

I do have to go into Kansas City on Friday evening, and I will be busy on Sat because someone is coming to the house to buy some of my rock.
So I think we might stop accepting entries Sunday 5pm Central Time. Depending on how many entries and how lively the discussion, we can have the comments just Mon-Tue or run all week.
Anyway, I will have a participation prize for each entry, so get your creative juices flowing and join in!

You have hosted one of these before. Can you post an image, before and after, so is newbies have a better idea what we need to do?

In the past there were some differences: multiple slabs, best set, most slab usage, but the basic idea is to make a virtual cab by 'cutting' it out of the image and 'pasting' it into a new window, or at least mark out the outline of a cab with lines or shading of some sort. Here is a line to some of my virtual cabs that shows the holse in the slab, which is not actually required in this case. ... and in this contest you submit only 1 cab. Here are some examples of simply marking the line. I drew these lines on the actual slab with a marker, but you could draw lines on the picture with the LINE, or PEN tool in most graphics editors. Here is one contest, but folks did some fancy feathered/3D edges. This time I have requested plain edges. I took everybody's raw entry and standardized a bit (e.g., dark background, same resolution ... etc). I will do that this time too. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?board=comptime&action=display&thread=36907

I'm in--I'm going to have to print the photo, draw the cab, then scan it back in to send you.
I just tried to do curved lines with Paint--what a disaster!

curved lines are tricky. you way works fine. I will trace what you send and pull it off the original so you do not lose any crispness.

OK, about 24 hours to go.
7 entries received, 2 other folks said they are working.
Still time to enter, and be sure to check tomorrow night to see and discuss all the entries.
