I rode around that Rio Grande area and looked at gravel. The gravel within a 1/2 mile of the river produced a lot of pretty material. But the gravel further away had little. The gravels both looked the same though. And then there were pockets that were more productive for say Montana type and then pet wood and then a purple jasper, moss, etc in the productive gravels. There was no rhyme nor reason to those killer agates you got there around the Rio Carlos other than enigma! I know that for the sake of those wanting to hunt rocks out there that the shores of Falcon Resovoir are loaded with agate bearing gravels. It is many miles of agate bearing gravels.Best time to go is when the water is low-often Aug-Feb.For those that can stash 50-100 pounds in a kayak and like to paddle the place is a gold mine and some.It is also one of the best bass lakes in this country. The lake must be 30 miles long.Great winter destination;real hot in warm season. The game wardens and border patrols asked me what i was doing about every day and wished me well.
