Howdy folks, I've been sawing wood like a fiend so I'll be posting a lot. This is more stuff from last weeks trip. All these would be much brighter in sunlight. We're getting some rain and overcast today. Thanks for looking.....Mel Typical shrinkwood: Kind of like this shrinkie., Interesting pattern Real mish mash of distorted pattern but excellent color. This one was a monocot, some kind of fern or palm but kind of ehh when cut: Now this is what shrinkwood is all about. Can't wait to cab one of these slabs. Nice classic hexagonal fracture. Closer look. I may retake this pic when I have some sun.

gorgeous!
Is it "shrinkwood" because it shrank and then the spaces refilled with a different color silica gel?

Scott: Yep, if you want to read about it there is a good paper on the web . Google Hexagonally fractured petrified wood. The authors name is Scott Singleton. Darwin ( Matt) Dillon, a guy I met at the San Antonio show was the guy who first told me the name shrinkwood......Mel

That shrinkwood is going to really look super when you isolate those structures in a cab.
