Got my 66 yesterday, I'm curious how much weight you can put in it. I was amazed that the empty drum & lid is 3.2#
all I see in any instruction is fill 1/2 to 2/3 with rock,
I just dont want to burn up the motor
thanks Dave

Daniel -- I bought an old QT66 on eBay a few years ago. It's so old it's green/gold, not blue. The rollers wore out, but the motor still runs fine. Others complain the new models are not as durable. As far as I know, they still use the same motors, and those aren't even made by Lortone. I wouldn't fill it less than 2/3 full. Two 6lb barrels with rock will weigh less than one 12lb barrel with rock, so you won't be putting as much stress on the motor as a QT12 would. It runs very hot, shouldn't be a problem, but put it where it's (relatively) cooler if you can. I only mention that because it gets a little hotter where you live.

I don't run Lortones much anymore but used to for years. Two QT 66 barrels 2/3 full with grit and water will go real heavy, as much as 12# each. Didn't used to be a problem with my old Lortones but the ones I bought most recently broke down under two 2/3 full barrels so I had to run them only half full and still they did not last very long ( under two years)....Mel

Has anyone replaced the motor with something more durable? I have no idea how difficult it would be to get a different motor to fit the tumbler?

Mel, Have you ever taken apart a "broke down" Lortone motor (not actually made by Lortone) to see what happened? Did it just stop? Catch on fire? How did it break down? My motor periodically "freezes". That is, it won't turn after I recharge a barrel and start it up again. I use good quality machine oil, but I wonder if it isn't good enough, or I need something for higher temperatures. I fix it with just a squirt or two of acetone (in a syringe) to clean the old lube out of the bearing. Relube it and it runs fine again. Mine's older, but I thought the motor I saw on a new model was exactly the same. Maybe not. Maybe it isn't made in the same place anymore.

Daniel, I'm not very mechanically inclined. My motors too have just finally quit turning the barrel. Basically sat there and hummed. I've done a relatively thorough cleaning and used solvent and relubed best as I could without taking it apart. Runs a bit and then slows down and finally stops again. I finally lost patience with Lortones, chucked out all the 33Bs and kept just one QT12/66 that I use a little but I went to a MJR base unit which has been going pretty much 24/7 for about 7 years now ( way larger engine and stronger drive belt). The MJR easily handles a 20 pound barrel or so even when it's seven years old, When new it handled even heavier loads for years. Basically I just got tired of fooling with the Lortones because it required too much tinkering, belt replacement ,etc to keep them going...Mel

I found a website with a ton of Fasco motors. Not sure what specs I need. Anyone know?

The Label on the motor has all this Fasco Model 71639327 type u6381 class b V 115 Hz 60 a:o 86 It measures as a 3.3 inch diameter motor
I cannot find any reference to that Model # on Fasco Site. I'd like to know the Horsepower & rpm rating. I imagine it could be crossed to a Dayton or other brand maybe something just a bit more powerfull
