Howdy folks, Man my blade is having a tough time with this Texas wood. Have to resharpen every couple of pieces now. About time for a cleanup and a new blade I guess. Anyway, a few more cuts....Mel This time resharpening was a pure pleasure. This has got to be the best hunk of Devil's Toenails I've ever gotten into. Really fine grained, colorful and very gemmy. Way above usual for this material. Closer look: Another shrinkie. Too bad it has a bad fracture. Another piece of wood that is moss agate inside: Another palm that again stopped the freaking saw so I only got just this one cut. Healed fracture down the middle and a change in the look of the palm either side.

Roy, Not logs like I've seen up there where you guys are in the Pacific Northwest. Most the Texas wood where we hunt seems to be driftwood fragments in alluvial gravel deposits. The largest pieces I've found are log or branch sections maybe 8" by 12 inches. At my buddies rockyard, he gets in gravel from La Grange, Texas and I've seen log sections up to maybe two feet long and a foot in diameter there but is not colorful or of the quality of the wood from the south Texas gravel. The south Texas stuff from the George West area just seem to be really colorful well silicified stuff...Mel
