Those are cool. Someone at Quartzsite had a bunch of those and he brought them to my booth and had me cut them all in half. Sure makes a mess out of your oil but it is cool to see what is inside them.

Brad, notice how cavities fill in fossilized substances like baculites/ammonites,dino bone, bivalves, etc. This chunk of coral was a colony of probably over 100 small corals. So it had over 100 chances of partial fills resulting in psuedomorphs. The large ones(8-24 inches)are usually crushed.I do find them on the half shell :> or quarters and pieces.Great supply of botyroidal sheets. If i kakak say 5 miles and pass a dozen shoals(=petrified reefs) some of those shoals will have a high percentage of botyroidal 'gravel'.Meaning there will be specimen size psuedomorphs in that shoal.Because the water is not fast enough to wash the solids downstream,so the gravel represents the large corals in that shoal/reef.A 6 mile section of the Withlacoochee yields nothing but pulpy junk full of 'spagetti' on the inside like the other weird one i just posted. The 5 miles above that is a gold mine. And 80% percent of all my coral has come from the first 1/4 mile of heavily picked over(visited) river. The other 90 miles is supposed to be full of fine material. Thanks for your interest
