The silicification process(or lack thereof) did bizarre stuff to the polyp tubes freezing them in their tracks.Pressure washer was used to dig the cavity Pretty weird eh?

It is just a different territory w/different stuff. We need buttes, volcanoe shafts, lava, earth quakes, agate bisquits from lava bubbles to keep up with your territory. You got shark's teeth and oysters on mountains-what's w/that?

I dunno, but if my high school geography teacher was right, someday my house will be beachfront property on the lee side of the new island called Southern California Island... But I think my house will turn into termite poop long before that happens.

Very odd. Surprised it stood up to pressure washing.

Those straws in there are pretty delicate Toad.So the closer they break to the edge the stronger they are. It's like minature basalt crystals. The center was real brittle. Dursban for the termites.A parachute for when the earth opens and swallows the San Andreans.

I always hunted specimen grade solid coral to saw in half and polish in balanced halves Mel.For sale as house decor in high end shops in Atlanta.Passed by a lot of weird stuff, giant specimens, rare preservations, etc. They didn't pay bills but the ones i did take home are hobby stuff. Donnie, you live on top of solid coral.I believe they have to saw slots in limestone/coral mix to lay pipe down there in the Keys.Or use a diamond core drill to put fence posts in.

Fantastic looking piece.
Just imagine, if that would have filled up with agate and the cabs you would get out of that.

That piece is very comical looking. It turns to the right, when stood up it looks like it has an elf's hat on.I see a lot of this 'pith'as it is called.I do not recall seeing it resilicified. However, look closely and you will see a coating on some of these broken botyroidal 'stalagmites'(all that you see are from linings of coral psuedomorphs).Best example is between cheaters and right edge-middle of pic. Some cavities have dozens broke and reglazed over.

woot! That is really fine!
I got a new phone today. Ordered a pink cover for it to match your cheaters. Wise choice! B-)

Neat! Who knew from the outside? Looks like Q-Tips! I've never seen that in person. Thanks for posting.
