I have all these great slabs I got at the rock show and will cut some more of the green adverturine, jasper and agates I got from Banjocreek. Since they are already shaped and smooth, except the edges which I can work on with the dremel, can I just put them in the vibe tumbler in pre-polish, then on to the polish stage? Or do I need to polish them by hand?
Unfortunately, I don't have one of those nifty lap polishers - yet!

before i got all of my equipment I was doing it all by hand. There on e-bay T.W.A.T is selling preformed cabochons .Oh!(the wet agate trader) better throw that in. I used my dremel to round my edges. Then with a small electric sander I used 400 grit paper, then 600 and to 800 grit. For polishing I used my dremel with a felt disc with tin oxide on it. It took alot of time but I was happy that with some effort I could produce a nice cab. Have fun and be proud. ;D

Hey llana. I went to the gem and mineral show here in San Jose a couple of weeks ago and picked up some nice slabs also. Large-8", $2, Med-4"-6", $1, small, .50. I could have stayed at that table all day, but I am glad I wandered about, cuz I found an 18lb. box of mixed Jaspers for $4. They are in the rough grind right now. As for the slabs, I'm going to use some of them as inlays for the tops of wooden boxes I make. I'll post pics when I get around to those.

Hey Stoner,
Did you go to the SJ show on Saturday? I went Saturday morning with my two little ones. I was probably the one that ran over over toes with the baby stroller. LOL.
I didn't buy anything but the kids got some crystals. I saw the table by the gem club. With a lot of restraint, I looked at the slabs, but didn't buy any.
the Santa Cruz Gem show is coming up in a couple weeks.

Hey Stoner $4 for 18# of jasper slabs! Yipes, what a deal. That's a buncha slabs.
My slabs are really smooth and, with the exception of around the edges, I don't think they need to go thru the 60/90. Am going to use my dremel and diamond burrs to clean up the edges, then was hoping I could put them in pre-polish, then polish and they will turn out nice. Am going to try it anyway. And, if that doesn't work, guess I will try it Brett's way!
Thanks, Brett for your info on hand polishing.
