Hello there... I just received my 1st order from amlap and being a total newbie, I have no idea if this was a good deal or not: 1 Silicon Carbide 60/90 Grit 5 lbs. $13.75 1 Silicon Carbide 120/220 Grit 1 lb. $4.05 1 Miners Mix - 1lb of rough tumble mix $4.00 Any insight would be helpful Also... for whatever reason I read the company reviews on here AFTER I placed my order (duh) and many said their items took awhile, although these posts where from 2007/2008. I ordered this stuff on Monday and got it this afternoon so that was a pleasant surprise.

Thanks for the info, in my opinion that is the best advertising a company can have.
There always are many opinions on a site like this, which is great, but actual experince is still the best.
Thanks milto

Thank you Daniel... that's what I've been trying to do, the only resources I have are a few books and this site. I'm just learning and don't really have anyone to bounce questions off of, was just trying to see if I did good/bad/about right with the things I got.

The price on the 60/90 looks pretty good, on the 120/220 it looks a bit high. It's impossible to tell on the tumbling rocks without knowing the quality and type of rocks you got.
I hope this helps.

This is a picture of the stones... kinda generic, probably won't get them again, but very pretty.

I think those prices are ok. "miners mix" - did they say what's in it?
therockshed.com is a good deal on grit and they have great Bahia Agate. Ask before you buy if the is something in particular you want or if you want ideas, someone here can tell you where to look or make suggestions.

Thanks John- will definitely be asking before I buy anything from now on! This was the description from the site for the miner's mix: This collection of 30 years worth of cutoffs has a wide variety of jaspers, Wyoming jade, agates, wonderstone, petrified wood and everything else under the sun. No guarantee that you'll get exactly what's mentioned but you'll surely get your money's worth in this assortment. The stones in this batch generally run on the large size (1 to 2 inches). Sold by the Pound.
But really it is just like the little bag of various quartz you get when you buy a "kit" of some kind. There might be stuff in there that I am mistaking for something else though... I still have trouble identifying things sometimes.

I bought my first MK-303 10 inch x .050 saw blade from them in Feb 2011. With shipping, it cost me less than $85. I thought it was a great price, and no problems with the transaction. If I recall, I got ir right away as well. Jean
