I'd never even heard of this rock but I got it from a person I'd dealt with before who lives in FL and am really impressed. The slabs got bluer the deeper I slabbed. It is similar to sodalite and this one comes from Africa. It's supposed to polish very nicely so I look forward to that as well. ![](http://i1154.photobucket.com/albums/p530/abbygolden/DENNY-PC/dumotorite002_zpsf824ef63.jpg)

Cool! I love Dumortierite! I think it resembles Namibian Sodalite and Lapis!!! Can't wait to see what you do with it!!!!! Here's a cab I did a few months back: ![](http://i671.photobucket.com/albums/vv74/kgniot0709/P1050506.jpg)

I love this stuff, too. The ones I cabbed were a little tricky to polish, but they do shine up well.

I picked up a chunk of the Az Dumotierite a few weeks back at a sale. I did not realize how fractured it was until I cleaned it up, I might have to start slabbing it based on your guys pic's. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Tim ![](http://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-HFclIEjmvig/UX1yAgHQGFI/AAAAAAAAC8o/a5UL7_wXU8Q/s644/IMG_3267.JPG)

Very interesting seeing the African material. Pretty cab too! I've only found the dumortierite from down in the Indian pass area of California. It has a different look from your African material, more of a Levis blue I'd say....Mel
