I went out looking for fossils today at various locations near my house. I never got more than five miles from home. I started in a field that is part of the property of the school I teach at. I've never really looked there before. I didn't find much that was very interesting, but I thought this was cool. I left it there because it was pretty big and I didn't really have anything to do with it. Next I headed to a ditch that has fossils from the Potter Farm Formation. There are a ton of little fossils here. Lots of crinoid disks, brachiopods, and various corals. Here's a close up of the right side of the ditch. The fossils are in a clay-like mud. They come right out easily. Then I headed to the beach. There are a bunch of two track trails going out onto the beach. I'm not sure when they were placed there, but there were large quarry boulders blocking the trails. I love quarry rock because sometimes they are covered with fossils. There was one like that here. Here's a close up: Here are a couple shots of the beach. I was really trying to find some blastoids today. There are supposed to be some on this beach and also in the ditch I was at earlier. I have never found one and still haven't found one. I saw an eagle really close. These pictures were taken with a small point and shoot camera. I scared it out of the tree trying to get closer. I saw some trout lilies on the way out.

What a beautiful area! (Love the shades with the fossils!) I think you should string those crinoid bits, they look like natural beads

My daughter made herself a bracelet of them from that ditch.
