I think that with some of my new stuff, I will be entering this very soon. I have been practicing, no one told me I couldn't LOL, and I have come up with a very nice polish!

Hello all I thought I would throw a cab into the mix. Not from any expectations of having a "best"; this cab is in a series of "firsts" for me. I am not a great photographer and I have a pretty poopy camera lol. The rough rock was one my son and I found on our first ever rock hounding trip and is from Woodward Ranch It is from the first series of slabs I cut with my fist slab saw. This is my fifth cab, but it is the first agate I tried to cab, the first weekend I started cabbing. The cab has voids in it and a fracture on one side. There are also two deep voids, over 50% of the thickness, right along the edge of one side. I was surprised I was able to take it from slab to cab without it shattering. I did not do a final polish on it. I was concerned the polish would get into the fracture and voids..not sure how I would get it out again. Since I have a bit of a roll going on "firsts", I figured I would toss it into the competition as a "first" publically shown cab as well lol. Any critques are very much welcomed and thanks for looking! Roger

Randy, your cabs are beautiful. I am a raw beginner and it shows lol. Maybe in a year or so I can pull off something really nice.
Your Noreena cabs posted earlier this year are why I bought the equipment and started to learn. Not sure what it is about them, but I visit those photos frequently and wish I could find the material.
I have been busy this weekend in the garage and I might post some shots of a few more in the cabs section. I need to decide if I want to embarrass myself further lol.
Thanks!
Roger

Hello, Had some pc issues and was sure I would make this one. I am normally last minute anyways I cut a ring cab earlier this week and was kicking myself for not taking contest photos, so instead I thought I would just make another in the same material, same shape but much larger this time. Slab: Preform: And cab: I always seek out the Labradorites with the black veins and deep smokey base colors. They are a bit hard to come by but really add a bit of depth to the color. This piece was nice because the outline on the black veins has a reddish hue to it. Like usual the intensity of the orange was camera shy, but the bottom portion transitions to a deep rich orange. I cut this with the stripes diagonal and went for a bit of a tiger stripe look. Profile: Randy, nice cabs, Love the Hypersthene! Great work Roger. There is always something a bit more personal and special about materials you collect yourself Wish I could find more than mostly granite type stuff here lol. Thanks, Carleton

Ok, well early in May I posted a cab under the cabochon section of the forum. I've never competed before, but I figure "why not" Both sides of the slab The 2 preforms Finished cab

Fantastic entries all round. Some super material shown and worked to perfection.
Rodger: you might see yourself as a newcomer, but in the end it all comes down to composition, layout and (for me) color-textures. Your cab is one of my 3 favorites in this round thus far.

Thanks all I AM new, no two ways about it. I threw my cab in this, only to keep my string of firsts alive. All the others are much nicer lol. But! I had a lot of fun working that damn stone

Great looking entries this month!!! My camera was acting up and couldn't take any pics, something to do with unplugging it from the pc without hitting the remove hardware safely. 2 weeks bad then last night when I turned it on it started working again so look out heh heh heh
