Hogg Mine is a rose quartz formation bearing beryl cyrstals like 100's of pounds here south of Atlanta. There was so much the govt mined the beryl as ore to make beryllium-a slick high temp metal used as barrel liner for cannons. The rose quartz matrix is massive and tennis ball chunks w/out a single fracture fairly common. It has become a pay mine with controlled removal.Used to be $25 a day unlimited. The rose is light in color but asterated! hoggmine.com/photos.html

Jamesp, this was not cut from material from the Hog Mine. This came out of the Summer Rose Claim in the Greenhorn Mountains, California. This material also will display aterisms. Here is an example of the bright stars this material will display if the orientation is right CLICK THE BOX I have permission by the claim owner to take folks up there for collecting trips.....free of charge.

Very nice, both the wrap and stone. I think the rose quartz looks kinda like Victoria stone.
