I've been here awhile, but I still don't know some of the n-etiquette.
Slabbers please chime in.
When you post new slabs in this section, are you showing off, which is super cool, or are you also showing what you have available for sale or trade? I've seen some, ok a lot, that I thought to inquire about, but I don't know if that is acceptable or just rude and annoying.
Would slabs for sale only be in the for sale section?
Maybe we can have a sticky with the names of ppl who are interested in being approached for trades or sales. Good idea?

slabs for sale should be in the sale section IMO. if you want to show off a slab post it here, but if you want to sell it too create a separate listing in the sale/trade forum as well.

I would love to sell slabs but it seems like too much work to do it on etsy. I would think if you see something you like there's no harm in posting a reply asking for PM. My only issue trying to sell slabs is shipping them. I only like shipping slabs in flat rates so as long as someone gets a few slabs the $5 shipping for a small box is not bad.

I think this section is supposed to be where we show off the insides of the rock we cut so we can all ooh and ahh over the pretty slabs, use them for identificaton etc. I think for sale stuff is supposed to be in the buy sell section. That being said, I suppose if you see something that really interests you, it doesn't hurt to ask if the folks have extra they want to sell or trade, or if they don't, you could ask about a good source for that material....Mel

I think some people "show off" what is on their website or etsy or ebay, but it is low key. I'm OK with people showing stuff that *might* be for sale as long as the main point is discussion of the slabs.
I usually don't do a lot of trading or selling because I hate having to get stuff posted in a timely manner, and I don't always like setting a price on things.
But I don't think it is ever inappropriate to make a comment such as "give a shout if there is any possibility of trade or sale". - again, better in the context of a discussion, and not just 1 line asking if you can buy.

I don't think it hurts to ask. You never know, maybe the person posting the pic doesn't know that maybe someone might actually want their slab. This is opposed to "I cut this, but it is all I can do, but it isn't real good".
If anyone ever sees anything I post and wants to make an offer, I will never be upset. I might not want to sell it, but for the most part, almost every rock I have with a few notable exceptions, I would sell in a heartbeat.

I have pm'd people in the past that have shown off some slabs to inquire if they are for sale or not.. sometimes they are willing to cut another slab for sale sometimes they sell what they posted.. sometimes none of ti is for sale.... never hurts to ask !!

I like the fact that one can look through the post and find information on different materials. I also like showing and sharing the photos of what I cut and/discovered inside a rock. That being said, just about everything I post I sell. I do sell here from time to time but the forums for me are about sharing information and learning. I sell because I love digging and cutting and selling allows me to do this. I love the discovery in mining and cutting. So for me I it never bothers me if some one asks I encourage it! Plus if someone posts something that makes me "jones" to cut I am not shy and I will ask. No one else seems to mind so.........

In my case I post here for two reasons" to "show off" or to request ID.

I see no problem asking someone if they want to sell the slabs they posts, like others have said most of what I cut I would sell at least part of it, but I think it needs to be in a PM and not a question in the post. Keith
