Gorgeous!!!!! I am so bummed that you didn't cab the Charoite. I've done a few pieces and I can't figure this material out yet. Some get a high polish glass finish and others want to crumble and undercut. Stuff is too expensive for me to keep experimenting, but sure would like to know the secret!

Hmmmm, I'll see if I can score some somewhere and do a little research. There's a trick, we just gotta figure out what it is

Hmmmm, I'll see if I can score some somewhere and do a little research. There's a trick, we just gotta figure out what it is YES!!!! That would be AWESOME! I'll post some pictures! The bad sucks big time. The edges flake off and crumble while trying to do the basic preform (on 180..... I was being good and careful). I didn't have any safety goggles on and a darned little tiny piece got in my eye! Here is the crappiest preform I've done. You can easily see the chips that flew off of the 180 disk.... (rest of them weren't so bad and a couple others cut and shines like a dream...... cutting angle? How do I spot the cut and quality before purchasing?) Needless to say, this piece got thrown in the to do some other day pile and that is where it is still! Got a great piece on my table now but it's not quite done. This one though is super solid, hardly any undercutting issues and I'm able to use a bit of pressure while working it.... hmmmmm.... it's so strange?

Those are beautiful- both of them- couldn't possibly choose. The wraps are perfect! I have done some charoite. I had some that crumbled down to a tiny cab, and had one that was easy as pie. Can't discern the difference. It's a gorgeous stone, though. I gave up cabbing it. I found a seller on ebay that accepted my offer on 3 really primo highly chatoyant cabs and that's the last I got of it. I do have a good size cache, though- with charoite being my favorite color, I can't really resist a bargain on one.
