Bought this in Steamboat Springs with some other faceting rough and rocks. Was told it is from around Strawberry Hot Springs or named for it, can't remember. May be some of you might know, Herchenx, your in the area, do you know? Should have took picture of other end too, it has small point starting to grow out. Thanks

We like Strawberry Hot Springs, can't say I've ever heard of a mineral named for it though. Looks pretty, did you ever get to go hounding?

All I know is that the stuff made from what they are calling "strawberry quartz" is manmade glass - FireMountain is real guilty of this because they sell it in with the gemstone materials I have never seen "natural" strawberry quartz but that does not mean anything

It's six sided and 6mm across on all sides, it has dark blueish metal looking areas that tend to stand up and out three different places. With a 10X loupe it's looks like the red is like a paint maybe heated or something. My brother in law got one that was a small cluster, about 6mm X 10 mm with 4 or 5 small points. I have never heard or saw red quartz either. I guess I'll have to put it on my 1200 lap to see if the red comes off. Each end is very red. John, he didn't take us hounding, said something came up..
Thanks

Rose quartz sometimes come in a strawberry color, but never heard of strawberry crystal quartz. Try hitting a very small spot with some wet or dry sand paper. If the color comes off and clear shows underneath, it was either treated with something or has natural iron staining on the surface.

It looks like iron staining ...Like what I find in Arkansas crystal digging....Soak it in Iron Out for a day and see what happens....JOhn

Yeah, I've seen a strawberry quartz at shows that was some form of red massive quartz kind of like red aventurine quartz but without the sparkles....Mel

I hit some of it with 400 wet and dry and not a lot of differance, did get sort of clear right on the edge.
