Started out last year with about 3 tubers like so Planted them in this tired water lily pond June of last year. The deer finally finished off the last of the water lilies. This was 2 months ago This is yesterday. They should be putting blooms out in 3 weeks The leaves often reach 3 feet across. These are pink meaning they are most likely asiatic.Yellow blooms only occur in the North American lotus. The Nile river is also a native location. They take over large water bodys quickly.I could kill those lotus w/about a cup of round-up with very little impact on sorroundings

Kudzu for the water!
I had never heard of kudzu until we visited a daughter in the Carolinas. Very attractive plant. Very fast growing plant. Covered buildings and everything in its path. Decided to leave kudzu in the Carolinas.
Ivy could be the kudzu of California; probably others as well.
Your ponds are always so pretty...

Kudzu is amazing. It is a bean/legume and builds the soil quick Pat.We used to tunnel thru it and make forts in it.Strong as rope.It sets giant tubers way deep ready to put more shoots up if you kill the existant ones.We have ivy but the kudzu is so fast. Harvesting lotus is done in containers Scott. The tubers are delicate and way deep.Let me see if i can show an image

To harvest lotus tubers for food or growing stock they can be grown in 2-4 foot container. They will grow in 2 inches of soil. After a year they create about this many tubers

That's beautiful James!!
I need to repot all the plants I potted in my little pond already, they are way overcrowded, and won't bloom like that:(... need to dig at least another pond soon:(.

so, then if you wanna use that pond for anything else, you must "roundup" it? as if that is a verb.

You could say"I will use roundup on those plants" Or "I will roundup that pond" or "I will shoot that pond" That is in order, best grammer at top. I have shot the edges of it once from a gas powered sprayer sitting on the back of an ATV.About 4 weeks ago.See the brown border. And i missed to avoid overspray into the pond.Overspray is a bad word in the nursery business when 'rounding up'.Another common expression.I do use about 8 gallons of 41% concentrate every year.
