They look like candy. The first one, orange and black, on your photo albumn is wicked looking. Some cool looking coral patterns also.

That orange and black comes from black muck in the deep part of the river. The water should be low this summer exposing more of that material.Like muck-it may be ancient. The Suwanee river is a special spot for ancient man.During the ice age the river was a mere creek with spring boils exposed.Same boils are there today, but spend most of the time underwater except at drought.Camps found all along the creek banks.Camps that would have only existed at low ice age water levels. So a large population of ice age folks lived on the bottom of the present day river bottom.Camps/camp fires/posts/bones etc carefully studied.I sawed an iceage dugong rib,i will look for the pic so you can see how well the rib preserved.Must have been a giant manatee;the rib is huge. So a bone person would be surprised to find animal bones that were shaped by man to serve as tools, and mineralized. Were talking within 10,000 years-the last ice age according to the archeologists.I think apatite mineralizes them, not sure but a thin deer rib ground pointed (a common tool)on each end sounds like a piece of glass when dropped on a dinner plate. What is weird,is that these guys lived and modified bones from mammals-rhino, sloth ,mastadon, saber tooth lion, weird deer, weird tapirs-formidable animals. Not dinosaurs but crazy ass mammals. The conditions were favorable for preservation. And the artifacts usually crafted out of (my) coral were of paleo style(rare and oldest). So this river was an intense habitat for the dudes eating mastadons and perhaps being eaten by saber tooth lions.A plethra of paleo age artifacts are found mixed w/this clan of insane mammals. And a lot of the coral chips i collect are debris from this ancient bunch. So when you drop the boat in this river you are in a special spot in terms of the late ice age.I am bad about not picking up vertebrate fossils or pursuing artifacts cause Florida tries to get you.I used to,but no more.
