Does anybody know what Thumler's uses as a pre-polish? I've got a batch coming out of 100/200 and I was going to go straight to 1000 alumna, but if their pre-polish is in between, then I'll use that first. Also, does anybody use just 80g as opposed to 60/90 for the rough grind? Any advantages/disadvantages?
Thanks, Ed

Thumlers comes standard with Tripoli pre-polish. You wont be needing 1000 grit after tripoli. You only need 1000 after 400 or 500 sc.

Oh, the straight grits like 80, 220 ect... are really only nessacary for flat laps and such. Not for tumblers.

Hey James. Thanks for the info. The reason I ask about the 80g is cuz the local rock shop I go to was out of 60/90 so I bought some 80, but it doesn't seem to work as well. any thoughts?

I think the "60" part of 60/90 might be the reason why. It will most likely make a difference in the grinding power of the grit. Opposed to the 80 grit which is actually closer to 90 then 60 grit.
