It is sort of funny but when I was metal detecting a lot, a bunch of us would drive a tank of gas out going and coming to a site to maybe only find a few cents worth of old coins. The same goes for a bunch of rocks. Postage and cost for a box of rocks. You have to admit, that it is all comical. I guess it all depends on what you do for enjoyment or extra income. ;D

Cost of gas or not, to me at least, nothing beats going out and finding some cool rocks and cutting them open to see what lies inside. You got me thinking about it so I think I'll go for a hunt tomorrow morning....Mel

I know what ya mean Mel. I spent lots of money to go find a few coins and still enjoyed it tremendously. Now the rock hunting bug is starting to hit me too. But I can only do what my limited income allows. Have fun searching for those rocks.

Even if you get skunked, just being outdoors enjoying nature makes it all worth it. The sights, the smells and the critters are the cake. The rocks you may find are the icing on the cake.

I still enjoy doing both trackside. sliced some rock early this morning, detected, then worked on some cabs.

I agree with everyone. It's great going out looking for material. I seem to come home with more "garden rock" than workable rocks. Some how you always come back looking forward to your next trip.
