This time the 5th grade class asked me to come present about rocks. I spent an hour going over basic geology and rock id and then a massive show and tell followed by unloading about 50# of tumbled and specimen rocks. I took a big box of "giveaways" with 1#+ jaspers, pet wood, druzy covered etc and have away almost all my tumbled stones in 1# bags and needless to say it was a huge hit. My wife will be thrilled, I've been culling my piles a bit and this gets a lot that was too nice to just dump out of the garage. This was all stuff I collected (I'm not giving away my trades!) Here is the class with what they picked out Sent from my phone. Attachments:

Too bad they're not more enthusiastic! That looks like a fun day. My son has been asked to do something similar with much younger kids this summer. I don't think he'll go alone, so I'll go with him. I told him that we should bring some polished rocks to give to the kids, but he's not as generous as you, John. He hoards the rocks in tubs stashed under his bed. Maybe this picture will help convince him to share.

Yeah, it's part of the "clean up the mountain of rock" initiative here at the casa. Sent from my phone.
