Seeing all the folks from the south with the their lush vegetation has had me jealous for a while. We worked in the yard this weekend, got the vegetable gardens planted and my wife put out all the annuals and added some other greenery to the landscape. Not as abundant as others but hopefully it will give us fresh veggies later this summer. This will hopefully be corn. Haven't tried growing this yet in Colorado, but this variety is supposed to do well in our soil and shorter growing season. Yes, that is a "Topsy turvy" planter in the back. That is the only way I've succeeded in getting tomatoes and herbs, so there are 3 tomato plants, 2 sweet basil and one cilantro. Don't judge. Next up is our back raised bed, left half onions, right zucchini, cucumbers and I'll try cantaloupe. Our growing season is short enough that I have little confidence in the cantaloupe, but I always try and hope we get lucky. There is another row of dirt we throw a few extra zucchini in every year back along the fence. Last is a view across the rest of the back yard. The little tree in the foreground is new last summer and it survived the winter. My wife added a lot in the far corner that should grow nicely. It is chilly again this evening, probably mid-50s, hopefully the work won't be lost to another cold snap this week. Anyhow it was nice to get things ready for summer. Sent from my phone.

You keep a great looking yard, John. My backyard is a disaster ... since the neighbors don't see it I don't put as much effort into it. The front ... different story. My neighbors all have great looking front yards so I do enough to keep up LOL. We did some raised planters like yours using cedar fence planks - nice, inexpensive option from Home Depot. The boys have some seedlings started so hopefully, like you, we'll have fresh veggies in a month or so!

Thanks all, the neighborhood we are in now is pretty nice, quiet, nice people, we are basically the Clampetts though. That said, we like to keep the yard nice since we try and have company over. One of the nice features is the xeriscaping you can see in the first photo. It runs the depth of our lot, I have tumbled all the epidosite I have found in there, it allows me to dump water off the slurry because the gray runs under the rocks and is unseen, as I collect more rock it stands out against the gravel, but doesn't look out of place, and every one in a while I find a pretty jasper in it... Here is my youngest son watering his marigolds that he and my wife planted. Everyone got in on it this weekend... Sent from my phone. Attachments:
