Hello everyone. I just got a renewed interest in this hobby as my kids are really excited about it. They are 10 and 14 and we are loving taking trips to various areas looking for "pretty" rocks. Found this site and I am amazed and the treasure trove of information here. We have been to a few places - Payson, Wickenburg, and even a tour of the Swallow Mine - a real highlight for us. Glad to be a part of this community and looking forward to collecting!

Welcome to the forum, Ross. Great to meet you. That's really great that your kids like to go as well. My boys are on the younger side (6 and 11) and join me on our rockhounding "adventures". Looking forward to your posts!

Howdy Neighbor. Welcome to the club.
You need to looking into joining a local club, I am leading a Leaverite Club trip to the Zebra agate site in Payson on June 1. You are welcome to join us.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the warm welcome. I do feel lucky that the kids (especially the teenager) love to rock-hunt with me. I think the real turning point was finding some nice quartz crystals in Wickenburg. Nothing of show quality, but WE found it, so it was special (and pretty!). When we found fossils in Payson, that really helped seal the deal! Now, we try to plan our trips around different potential sites in the area.
Tim, you mention joining a local rock club. Is there one down here that you would recommend? We are going to be out of town on June 1, but would love to hear about other trips that are planned. Thanks again!

Shotgunner - I hope you liked the area last weekend! The weather was a little warm, so sorry about that :-) We have lived in Chandler for over 15 years now.

Hey Shtogunner - I saw that trip report and that was one of the reasons that I knew I had to join this group! Those pictures of the rocks are beautiful. I showed them to the kids and they loved them. They asked me when can we go and find some like that Looks like you had a great time. Tim has been great! In reading various posts, I can see his knowledge and generosity abound. Thanks! Ross

Thank you Wayne! My hometown is Flagstaff so we go north quite often (especially in the summer!). I really appreciate the offer. Next time we are heading up there, I will send you a message. Thanks again!
