Howdy folks, Went by my buddy's rockyard again this morning cause the day s pretty and he was supposed to get in a fresh pie of Rio Grande material. No new stuff so I spent an hour in the flint pile again. Just to describe it to you guys, imagine a 20 x 20 by five foot high pile of all quartz family rocks. Flint of every pattern and color you can imagine. I mainly just look for pet wood, fossils and pieces of flint with nice Polish flint type patterns. IN the past I've found huge hunks of palm in this stuff. It's cool because most all of it takes a mirror polish so it's great tumbling stuff. Anyway, a few pics.....Mel Wood and a couple of old mammal bones. Pretty flint with Liesgang lines: Flint nodule full of fossil bivalves and other critters: Flint nodule with a cephalopod of some kind: Tumble flint. Much bluer than the pic shows. I really like this one, a very translucent tea colored flint nodule with tons of floating fossil bits of some kind. And finally, catch of the day that shows you never know what will show up in Texas gravel, a nice little banded fortification agate:

James, No the bones are sort of like the kind you find in your rivers back east, kind of calcified and only partially mineralized....Mel
