I'm starting small... I tried a wrapping full stones a few times and have been generally horrified with the results ... so now I'm taking a few steps backwards and trying a combination of drilling and wrapping bails. I like how it's turning out so far. Feedback is welcome please - and yes I know I have an uneven number of wraps on the loose-ends of the second stone heehee. I'll fix it soon if I can ever steal it back from the happy owner. I need variety so if any has a favorite link or tutorial on different types of wire wrapped bails lay it on me. I would just worry that the friction of the hole against the wire would wear it out...

It is a good idea! How did the drilling go for you?

Haha thanks all.
John - I hear ya and I'll have to keep an eye on that. I was more worried about the orange stone because it's soft and the silver is actually scraping the hole larger - I'll probably scrap that one and not give it away.
Cathy the drilling went pretty good - I think I've got it down now. I struggled with it a few months ago until I ran into a man at a show who sold me the right drills and taught me to ditch the press and do it by hand in a round and round motion. I haven't broken a bit or a rock since.
Gr - good call - I only wish it worked heehee.

Nice idea. If scraping is a worry, why not try a ball-burr, if you have one, to round out the edges of the hole. That should result in smoother movement (if any) and avoids chipping from visible areas. I don't work with metals, but I think it would also give you the opportunity for a tightener transition.

Hey, Tommy I haven't seen anything like your style before, so kudos to you for originality. I think it looks pretty cool, too.

Thanks Tela!
Just for the record I didn't invent the idea of wrapping a bail with a drilled hole. I saw it somewhere on the web and thought it was a cool idea. The 'style' just kind of came with the first one - the heart shape complimented the shape of the small graveyard point stone and I like how it turned out. Subsequent wraps haven't had as pronounced of a heart shape because they didn't look right with the stone's shape.
Kurt thanks for the great idea! I'm going to get a set of burrs and round out the front and back of the holes going forward. Seems like such a great fix for something that has been bothering me from the beginning.

That is a neat idea for the bails. It's always the stone that dictates the wrap IMHO. I wonder if you could try a little glue on the wires inside the hole to stabilize them so they won't rub although that may make the pendant too rigid on the wire.

I think they look great and may have to try one like that myself one day!!!!
If you want you can add a sleeve into the hole to prevent the stone from wearing thru the wire or visa-versa, also a ball mill as suggested to round the hole.... also if you are using square wire it will rub & wear no matter what... thats where the sleeve may help or at least slow down the wear for awhile!!
Good Luck with what I consider a unique looking wrap style!!
